| Description |
Very rare broadside in Dutch and French regarding new inventions for fire-fighting. After inventing a new method for street-lighting Jan van der Heiden focused on improving the technology and methods for fighting fires resulting in several spectacular inventions that were patented in 1677. The name van der Heide is spelled in different ways: Heiden, Heyden and Heyde. Jan van der Heiden junior became the head of the fire-brigade in Amsterdam. In 1690 van der Heiden Jr and Sr published the famous book on fire-pumps/ engines/ hoses with the title "Beschryving der nieuwlyks uitgevonden en geoctrojeerde slang-brand-spuiten en haare wyze van brand-blussen", the book also contains an overview and illustrations of the most important fires that happened in Amsterdam. This broadside predates the publication of the book!! Large broadside, totally measuring 59x46 cm. (leaf), the upper half consisting of an etching (29,5x45 cm.) showing fire fighting operations in an Amsterdam or Alkmaar setting w. engraved title in Dutch and French, with a strip (6,3x45 cm.) with engraved explanatory text (in Dutch and French) and 4 small engravings, the lower half with 4 columns letterpress in Dutch and French (2 columns each) without address. The three prints below the main print show how the pump can be used for ship-fires, spraying the garden and a small pump for private use.Click on the photo and use "<" button under the photo to see additional photos |

Condition: The print is layed down, has a small pinhole but is otherwise complete with a narrow margin. Overall the print is in good condition. EU buyers to add VAT / BTW to the price. |
